Hello, My name is Wendy Barth and I am the Green Party
candidate for governor of Iowa. I am a 4th generation Iowan,
and therefore a product of some of the best public schools in the
country. I have a Master's degree in Mathematics from the
University of Iowa, and I have been working for the last 15
years as a software engineer, doing 3-D animation and
avionics. As a software engineer, I have been trained to solve
problems. While the issues of government are different, the
skill set needed to find solutions is not.
We have a high quality of life in Iowa, partly due to
things that we take for granted: a healthy environment,
excellent public services, the honest nature of our
citizens. We need to protect our standard of living from
those who would destroy our environment and our trust.
But our quality of life is under attack.
- Our healthy environment is under attack from
the massive factory farms, with their massive manure
spills and their poisonous clouds of ammonia.
- The honest nature of our citizens is
under attack by predatory lenders who charge outrageous
interest rates - rates that were once illegal in the state
of Iowa.
- The health of our citizens is under attack by
rising prices for insurance and prescription drugs.
When deciding who to vote for, what is
your strategy?
Are you trying to decide who will win, or are
you trying to decide how you would like to be governed?
Choosing a winner is a strategy for gamblers who are placing
their bets. As citizens of a democracy, voting is supposed to
be your key to getting government that represents you. The
horse-race hype is designed to distract you from following
heart and voting for your best interests. I cannot promise you
